IN 1899-1953, the Islamic North Sudan became more developed. Over time, Islamic laws were integrated into North Sudan's laws. In 1955, the Equitoria Corps located in South Sudan, which is predominantly Christian mutinied in fear of becoming subsumed by the North. The mutiny was unorganized and the North quickly suppressed it. The attack led to a secessionist movement in the South that the North could not easily suppress. After a 17 year war and many peace talks, South Sudan became its own country.
